These are details of the 2011 competitions, the Spring, Summer and Autumn schools along with any other events were the dates have been announced by the BAA, ETAN and the JAA.

Junior competitions are:

Senior competitions are:

  • February – Kyu Grade
  • March – National
  • June – Club Championship
  • August – 9th International Aikido Tournament /2011 World Championship

Aikido Schools:

  • May – Spring School in Pensilva
  • July – Summer School in Sheffield
  • November – Autum School in Margate

The BAA have also organised a number of monthly training sessions for anyone interested in training with the BAA National Team and a number of Youth Development days.

January

16th January – BAA National Team Training Session

February

5th February – Snr Kyu Grade Champoinship

The Snr Kyu Grade Champoinship will be held at the English Institute of Sport, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, S9 5DA – this venue was confirmed by the BAA.

Registration is at 09:00.

Embu events – minimum age 16 years:

Randori-no-Kata

3 Kyu and below: Shomen-ate 1-10 or 1-14 (competitor’s choice).
1 and 2 Kyu: Shomen-ate 1-17.

Open Kata 1 Kyu and below (guide: between 16 and 22 techniques, unarmed).

Ninindori Teams comprising any grade up to and including 1 Kyu.

Randori – minimum age 18 years:

Men’s Tanto – 3 Kyu and below
Men’s Tanto – 1 and 2 Kyu
Women’s Tanto – 1 Kyu and below

Junior additional event for competitors aged 14 to under 18 years:

Randori-no-Kata 1-17 (Shomen-ate)

Closing date for entries

13th March – BAA National Team Training Session

19th March – Junior National Championship

The Junior National Championship will be held at the Richard Dunns Sports Centre, Bradford, BD6 1EZ.

The competiton will start at 9.30 a.m.

20th March – Youth Development Day (South)

This is for all 13-17 year olds and will run 10am til 3pm at a cost of £5 for the day.

To be held at Winchester College, College street, Winchester, SO23 9NA.


27th March – Snr National National Championship

Snr National National Championship will be held at Dartford Judo Centre, Cotton Lane, Stone, Dartford, Kent DA2 6PD.

Championship will be from 09:30am until 17:00pm.

27th May to 30th May – BAA Spring School

The BAA Spring School will again be held in Pensilva, Cornwall. Details will be announced nearer the date.

June

5th June – Youth Development Day at Armley Sports Centre

A Youth Development Day will be held at the Tomiki Aikido club that trains at the Armley Sports Centre. The day will start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00.


8th June to 17th June – Grange Sports Centre is closed

Between 8th June and 17th June, the Grange Sports Centre will be closed for two weeks to allow for the move to the new Grange School building.

Therefore, there will be no Aikido classes on these dates:

  • Wednesday 8th June
  • Friday 10th June
  • Wednesday 15th June
  • Friday 17th June

12th June – BAA National Team Training Session

26th June – Snr Club Championships

The Snr Club Championships will be held at the English Insutitute of Sport – Sheffield.

2nd July – BAA Junior Open Championship (North)

To be held at Richard Dunns Sport Centre, Bradford.

All Kata for the Junior National Championships will be run on a knock-out flag system. Judging of Tant? Kakarigeiko and Ninindori will remain as previously.

Under 12’s, 14’s & 16’s MUST be on the mat ready to begin at 9.30am.

Under 8’s and 10’s MUST arrive for 12pm and report straight to the Izone room (downstairs opposite the sports hall) for registration.


3rd July – Instructors Course

To be held at Loughborough University, Netball Centre


10th July- BAA National Team Training Session

Wolverhampton University, Walsall Campus Sports Centre. Please allow extra time to get to the venue as there was some construction work taking place the last time a Aikido training session was held at this venue.

Note: This training session was to be held at “Netball Centre – Loughborough University” but the venue was changed on 3rd July.


29th July to 31st July – BAA Summer School

The BAA Summer School will be held at the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield.

There will be gradings at all levels, subject to candidates, including juniors.

There will be also be a BBA National Team Training Session on the Sunday.

There has been a change is dates – this is now from Friday 29th July until Sunday 31st July.

August

11th August to 14th August – 9th International Aikido Tournament (2011 World Championship)

The 9th International Aikido Tournament (alternatively known as the the 2011 World Championship) will be held at the Brunel University.
